The new BETA 38 – all red and shiny is now installed. It’s taken a while, but it was finally finished and test run yesterday. Today we took the boat out for the first time for sea trial with the new engine. It felt quite different and slightly slower to respond when reversing out of the berth, but that could partly have been the different feel to the throttle. Once out in the creek, she punched beautifully into to SW F5-6 funnelling through the creek. At 2,500 revs, she made nearly 6kts through the water and at the notional maximum of 3,000 revs she made around 6.5kts. We did push the revs a little higher for a short time and go 6.9kts, but that was not a level we would want to run the engine at normally.
Thanks to Ric who has helped Russell with the installation for the last three days – we certainly wouldn’t have been doing sea trials today without his help. Amsterdam, here we come ……
