We decided to start the day in style … The hotel at Furusund (where you pay the harbour dues) looked lovely and the previous day, Pat and Stephen had seen the breakfast for guests, so they suggested we had breakfast there before we left. They were right – it was excellent. Freshly cooked bread and a green goo which looked like something out of a B-grade sci-fi film, but was delicious. we did have to ask what we were drinking and it was apple juice, mandarin, lemon and ginger. Cold meats and cheese finished off the selection – all taken on the terrace looking over the sound at Furusund. An excellent start to the day.
The plan was to sail round to Oregrund. The plan started well, but when we rounded the corner by Kapellskar the wind was dead ahead and I got a What’s App message suggesting we stopped for lunch at Arholma. We did and we were still there at supper time! So – we had a lovey afternoon walk round the island – showing them the lighthouse, the boat houses and, at the northern end of the island, the cold war fort. Though the part inside the rocks wasn’t open we did manage to see the gun emplacements and various other artefacts on top of the rocks.
An excellent day and while we only did 20 miles, it was a great sail in around 15 -20 knots of breeze from the north.
